Eventixa lets administrators create coupon codes that apply discounts to eligible event ticket purchases.
Coupons are useful for early-bird promotions, partner offers, private discounts, launch campaigns, and limited-time ticket deals.
Available in: Eventixa Core
Location: Eventixa → Coupons → Add New
Related features: Tickets, Checkout, Payments, Advanced Coupon Rules
Open the Coupon Manager
From the WordPress dashboard, go to: Eventixa → Coupons
Click: Add New to create a new coupon.
Choose a Coupon Code
Enter the code customers will use during checkout.
For example: EARLY20 or PARTNER15
Keep the code short and easy to type.
Coupon Code Best Practices
Use coupon codes that are:
- Short
- Memorable
- Easy to spell
- Relevant to the promotion
Avoid unnecessary complexity.
For example:
Good: SAVE20
Less useful: SPECIAL_PROMO_DISCOUNT_CODE_2026
Avoid Confusing Characters
Where possible, avoid codes containing characters that can be confused.
Examples include:
- O and 0
- I and 1
- S and 5
This helps reduce customer entry mistakes.
Choose the Discount Type
Select the discount type supported by your Eventixa configuration.
Common options include:
- Percentage discount
- Fixed discount
The selected type determines how the coupon value is calculated.
Percentage Discount
A percentage discount reduces the eligible booking total by a percentage.
For example:
Discount type: Percentage
Amount: 20
If the eligible subtotal is: $100
the discount becomes: $20
and the final total becomes: $80
Fixed Discount
A fixed discount subtracts a specific amount.
For example:
Discount type: Fixed
Amount: $20
If the eligible subtotal is: $100
the final total becomes: $80
Enter the Discount Amount
Enter the coupon value according to the selected discount type.
For percentage coupons: 20 can represent: 20%
For fixed coupons: 20 can represent: $20 depending on the configured event currency.
Choose the Event
Where supported, restrict the coupon to a specific event.
For example:
Event: Community Science Festival
This prevents the same discount code from being used on unrelated events.
Why Use Event Restrictions?
Event restrictions are useful when:
- A coupon belongs to one campaign
- One event has a special sponsor
- Discount terms differ between events
- A promotion should not apply site-wide
Leave Event Unrestricted
If the coupon should be valid across all eligible events, leave the event restriction open where supported.
Use this carefully for general-purpose promotions.
Set the Start Date
If you want the coupon to become valid later, configure a start date.
For example:
Starts: October 1
The coupon should not be accepted before that date.
Set the Expiration Date
Configure an expiration date when the promotion should end.
For example:
Expires: October 31
This is useful for:
- Early-bird promotions
- Seasonal discounts
- Flash campaigns
- Launch offers
No Expiration
Where supported, a coupon can remain active without a fixed expiration.
Use this only when the discount is intended to stay available.
For long-term coupons, periodically review:
- Discount value
- Event eligibility
- Usage
- Business impact
Configure Usage Limits
Where available, set a usage limit to control how many times a coupon can be redeemed.
For example:
Usage limit: 100
After the limit is reached, the coupon should no longer be accepted.
When to Use Usage Limits
Usage limits are useful for:
- Partner campaigns
- Sponsor offers
- VIP codes
- Limited promotions
- Influencer campaigns
Enable the Coupon
Make sure the coupon is enabled or active before expecting customers to use it.
A disabled coupon should not apply at checkout.
Save the Coupon
After entering the required settings, save the coupon.
Before promoting it publicly, test the code in the frontend checkout.
Example: Early-Bird Coupon
Create:
Code: EARLY20
Type: Percentage
Amount: 20%
Event: Annual Conference
Expires: October 1
A $100 eligible booking becomes: $80 before any other supported adjustments.
Example: Fixed Partner Discount
Create:
Code: PARTNER25
Type: Fixed
Amount: $25
Event: Business Summit
Usage limit: 50
A $120 eligible booking becomes: $95
Example: Limited Launch Offer
Create:
Code: LAUNCH15
Type: Percentage
Amount: 15%
Start: September 1
Expires: September 7
The code is valid only during the configured launch period.
Example: Complimentary Coupon
A 100% percentage coupon can make an eligible booking free.
For example:
Code: VIP100
Discount: 100%
If the ticket costs: $50
the final total can become: $0
Use this carefully and configure suitable restrictions.
100% Discount Considerations
A full discount effectively converts the payable total to zero.
Before using a 100% coupon publicly, test:
- Checkout
- Booking creation
- Payment requirement
- Confirmation email
- Capacity
- Attendee records
Coupon and Ticket Quantity
Coupon discounts apply to the eligible booking amount, but ticket quantity remains unchanged.
For example:
Ticket quantity: 3
still creates three attendee places even if the coupon reduces the price substantially.
Coupon and Capacity
Coupons do not alter ticket capacity.
A discounted ticket consumes the same number of attendee places as a full-price ticket.
Coupon and Attendee Collection
Attendee fields continue to behave normally.
The coupon only affects pricing.
It does not change:
- Attendee quantity
- Required attendee fields
- Check-in
- Ticket assignment
Test the Coupon
After saving the coupon:
- Open the event frontend.
- Select an eligible paid ticket.
- Proceed to checkout.
- Enter the coupon code.
- Click Apply.
- Verify the discount.
- Verify the final total.
Confirm the Discount Calculation
For example:
Subtotal: $100
Coupon: 20%
Discount: $20
Final total: $80
Make sure the math matches the coupon settings.
Test an Invalid Code
Also enter an incorrect coupon code.
Eventixa should reject it instead of silently applying a discount.
Test Before Start Date
If the coupon has a future start date, confirm it cannot be used early.
Test After Expiration
If possible, verify expired coupons are rejected.
Test Usage Limits
For limited-use coupons, confirm that the coupon stops working once the configured usage limit is reached.
Test Multiple Ticket Quantities
Do not test only with quantity 1.
For example:
Ticket: $50
Quantity: 3
Subtotal: $150
Apply the coupon and verify the expected result.
Coupons and Guest Checkout
An eligible guest purchaser can apply coupons during Eventixa checkout when Guest Checkout is enabled.
Coupon rules still apply normally.
Coupons and Logged-In Checkout
Authenticated purchasers can use eligible coupons through the same checkout flow.
Coupons and Payment Gateways
The coupon is applied before the final payment amount is processed.
For example:
Subtotal: $100
Coupon: -$20
Payment amount: $80
The active gateway should process the discounted total.
Coupons and PayPal
PayPal should receive the final amount after the coupon is applied.
Always test the final PayPal amount before launching a live promotion.
Coupons and Stripe
Stripe requires Eventixa Pro
Stripe should also process the discounted final total for eligible bookings.
Coupons and Offline Payment
For Offline / Local Payment, make sure the customer and organizer use the discounted amount.
The checkout total should reflect the correct balance due.
Coupons and WooCommerce
If the booking uses WooCommerce checkout, review the coupon behavior together with WooCommerce integration.
Make sure the final order amount matches the intended Eventixa discount.
Coupons and Recurring Events
If a recurring event accepts coupons, the booking still belongs to the selected occurrence.
The discount does not change occurrence assignment.
Coupons and Virtual Events
Coupons can be used for eligible Virtual and Hybrid events.
The discount affects ticket price only.
It does not change virtual-event access rules.
Coupons and RSVP
RSVP registration does not require ticket payment.
Coupons are therefore normally not relevant to RSVP Going or Not Going responses.
Editing an Existing Coupon
Go to: Eventixa → Coupons
Open the coupon you want to modify.
You can adjust applicable settings such as:
- Discount amount
- Event restriction
- Dates
- Usage limit
- Status
Be cautious when editing a coupon that has already been promoted.
Changing Discount Amount During a Campaign
If customers already received a promotion for: 20% off changing the active coupon to: 10% can create confusion.
Avoid changing important terms during a live campaign unless necessary.
Disable a Coupon
If you want to stop a coupon without removing its history, disable it rather than deleting it.
This is useful when:
- Campaign ended
- Promotion paused
- Code leaked
- Usage should stop temporarily
Deleting a Coupon
Delete a coupon only when there is a clear reason.
Disabling is often safer because existing bookings may still refer to the coupon historically.
Existing Bookings Are Historical
Changing or disabling a coupon should not retroactively recalculate completed bookings.
Previously completed registrations should preserve the amounts recorded at checkout.
Refunds for Discounted Bookings
If a booking used a coupon, refund based on the amount actually paid.
For example:
Original subtotal: $100
Coupon: -$20
Amount paid: $80
Do not refund $100 unless there is another valid reason.
Advanced Coupon Rules
Requires Eventixa Pro
For more complex eligibility rules, Eventixa Pro provides Advanced Coupon functionality.
Use Advanced Coupon Rules when a basic code, value, event restriction, validity period, and usage limit are not enough.
Common Problems

Check:
- Coupon code
