PayPal is a secure online payment gateway available in Eventixa Core that allows attendees to purchase paid event tickets using their PayPal account or supported payment methods. Eventixa integrates PayPal directly into the checkout process, providing a familiar and trusted payment experience for customers.
When a PayPal payment is successfully completed, Eventixa automatically creates the booking, updates the payment and booking statuses, registers the attendee, and sends the appropriate email notifications.
Available in: Eventixa Core
Before You Begin
Before accepting payments with PayPal, ensure that:
- Eventixa Pro is installed and activated.
- PayPal is enabled as a payment gateway.
- Your PayPal API credentials are configured.
- At least one paid ticket has been created.
- PayPal is available for your store currency and business account.
Configuring PayPal
To configure PayPal:
- Navigate to Eventixa → Settings → Payments → PayPal.
- Enable the PayPal payment gateway.
- Enter your PayPal API credentials.
- Save your settings.
Once configured, PayPal becomes available as a payment option during checkout.
PayPal Settings
The PayPal payment settings allow you to configure how the gateway behaves during checkout.
Typical settings include:
- Enable or Disable PayPal
- Payment Title
- Payment Description
- Client ID
- Secret Key
- Sandbox Mode
- Webhook ID (if configured)
These settings determine how customers interact with PayPal and how Eventixa communicates with your PayPal account.
Sandbox Mode
PayPal provides Sandbox Mode for testing your checkout configuration without processing real payments.
When Sandbox Mode is enabled:
- Test payments can be completed using PayPal Sandbox accounts.
- No real money is transferred.
- Bookings and payment records are created using the PayPal testing environment.
Always verify your complete booking workflow before switching to live mode.
Customer Checkout Experience
When PayPal is enabled, attendees purchasing paid tickets can choose PayPal during checkout.
The payment process follows this workflow:

Successful Payments
When PayPal confirms a successful payment, Eventixa automatically:
- Creates the booking.
- Updates the payment status to Paid.
- Marks the booking as Completed.
- Registers all attendees.
- Updates ticket availability.
- Sends booking confirmation and payment confirmation emails.
No manual processing is required.
Failed or Cancelled Payments
If a customer cancels the payment or PayPal cannot complete the transaction:
- The booking is not completed.
- Payment is not marked as Paid.
- Ticket inventory is not permanently allocated.
- Customers may return and attempt payment again.
Administrators can review these bookings from the Bookings screen.
Payment Information
Each PayPal booking stores payment information with the booking record.
Depending on the completed transaction, the booking may display:
- Payment Method
- Payment Status
- Transaction ID
- Booking Total
This information is available from the Booking Details page.
Payment Status
PayPal automatically synchronizes payment status with Eventixa.
Common payment statuses include:
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Pending | Payment has not yet been completed. |
| Processing | Payment is currently being verified. |
| Paid | Payment completed successfully. |
| Failed | Payment could not be processed. |
| Cancelled | Customer cancelled the payment. |
| Refunded | Booking has been marked as refunded. |
Payment status is managed automatically by the payment workflow.
Booking Synchronization
PayPal payments are fully integrated with Eventixa’s booking system.
When payment succeeds:

Refunds
If a customer requires a refund:
- Process the refund from your PayPal Business Account.
- Update the booking status in Eventixa if necessary.
Important: Eventixa does not initiate refunds through the PayPal API. Marking a booking as Refunded updates the booking record, payment status, and related notifications within Eventixa, but it does not send a refund request to PayPal.
Viewing PayPal Payments
PayPal payment information can be reviewed from:
- Tickets → Bookings
- Booking Details
Administrators can view payment details alongside customer, booking, and attendee information.
Booking Emails
After a successful PayPal payment, Eventixa can automatically send:
- Booking Confirmation
- Payment Confirmation
- Administrator New Booking Notification
If the booking is later cancelled or refunded, the corresponding booking emails can also be triggered according to your email configuration.
Email templates can be customized from:
Eventixa → Settings → Emails
Best Practices
