# Event Coupons Overview

Eventixa lets organizers create coupon codes that reduce the price of eligible event ticket bookings.

Coupons can be used for promotions, early-registration campaigns, partner discounts, member offers, VIP invitations, and other event marketing strategies.

> **Available in:** Eventixa Core + Eventixa Pro
> **Location:** Eventixa → Coupons
> **Related features:** Tickets, Checkout, Payments, Advanced Coupon Rules

## What Is an Eventixa Coupon?

An Eventixa coupon is a discount code that can be applied to eligible ticket purchases during checkout.

For example:

**Coupon code:** `EARLY20`

could reduce the booking total according to the coupon's configured discount.

## Open the Coupons Screen

From the WordPress dashboard, go to: `Eventixa → Coupons`

The Coupons page lets administrators review existing discount codes and create new coupons.

From here, you can manage information such as:

- Coupon code
- Discount type
- Discount amount
- Event restrictions
- Usage rules
- Coupon status
- Validity period

## How Coupons Work

A typical coupon workflow is:

1. Administrator creates a coupon.
2. Coupon rules are configured.
3. Visitor selects eligible paid tickets.
4. Visitor proceeds to checkout.
5. Visitor enters the coupon code.
6. Eventixa validates the coupon.
7. The discount is applied when all rules are satisfied.
8. Checkout total is recalculated.

## Coupon Code

The coupon code is the text customers enter during checkout.

For example: `SAVE20`

Use codes that are:

- Easy to type
- Easy to remember
- Difficult to confuse
- Appropriate for the promotion

Avoid unnecessarily long codes.

## Coupon Code Example

For an early-bird promotion:

**Coupon:** `EARLYBIRD`

For a partner campaign:

**Coupon:** `PARTNER15`

For a conference launch:

**Coupon:** `LAUNCH25`

## Discount Types

Depending on the Eventixa coupon configuration, a discount can be based on a percentage or fixed amount.

## Percentage Discount

A percentage coupon reduces the eligible amount by a percentage.

For example:

**Ticket subtotal:** $100
**Discount:** 20%

Discount amount: **$20**

Final total: **$80**

## Fixed Discount

A fixed coupon reduces the eligible booking total by a defined amount.

For example:

**Ticket subtotal:** $100
**Fixed discount:** $25

Final total: **$75**

## Coupon Amount

The discount amount determines the value of the coupon.

For a percentage coupon: **20** can represent a 20% discount.

For a fixed coupon: **20** can represent a $20 discount depending on the event currency.

## Event Restrictions

A coupon can be restricted to specific events where supported.

This prevents a promotional code intended for one event from being used across unrelated events.

For example:

**Coupon:** `SCIENCE20` could be limited to: **Community Science Festival**

## Why Restrict Coupons by Event?

Event restrictions are useful for:

- Event-specific promotions
- Sponsor campaigns
- Conference discounts
- Seasonal offers
- Private event codes

This gives organizers more control over where the discount applies.

## Eligible Tickets

Coupon eligibility can also depend on the ticket and booking configuration.

Before launching a promotion, test the coupon with the tickets it is intended to discount.

## Free Tickets

A coupon generally has no useful financial effect on a ticket that already costs: **$0.00**

Free registrations do not require a price reduction.

## Paid Tickets

Coupons are primarily useful for paid standard tickets.

For example:

**Standard Pass:** $50

Coupon: **SAVE10**

can reduce the payable amount according to its configured rules.

## Coupon Field at Checkout

The Eventixa checkout summary can include a: **Coupon code** field.

Visitors enter the code and click: **Apply**

If the coupon is valid, Eventixa recalculates the applicable totals.

## Successful Coupon Application

After a valid coupon is applied, the checkout should reflect the discount.

For example:

**Subtotal:** $100
**Discount:** -$20
**Total:** $80

Always review the updated total before completing payment.

## Invalid Coupon

If the coupon does not satisfy its configured rules, Eventixa should reject it.

Possible reasons can include:

- Incorrect code
- Expired coupon
- Coupon not yet active
- Event not eligible
- Usage limit reached
- Other rule not satisfied

## Coupon Validity

Coupons can have a defined active period.

Depending on configuration, you may control:

- Start date
- Expiration date

This is useful for time-limited promotions.

## Coupon Start Date

A coupon with a future start date should not be valid before that date.

For example:

**Starts:** October 1

The customer cannot successfully use it on September 30.

## Coupon Expiration

A coupon with an expiration date should stop working after the allowed period.

For example:

**Expires:** October 31

This is useful for:

- Early-bird promotions
- Flash offers
- Launch campaigns
- Seasonal discounts

## Usage Limits

Coupon usage can be limited according to the supported Eventixa configuration.

This can help prevent unlimited use of a promotional code.

For example:

**Usage limit:** 100

After 100 valid uses, the coupon should no longer be accepted.

## Why Use Usage Limits?

Usage limits are useful for:

- Sponsor allocations
- Limited promotions
- Influencer campaigns
- Partner offers
- VIP codes

They help organizers control the financial impact of discounts.

## Coupon Status

Coupons can have an enabled or active state depending on the interface.

A disabled coupon should not be accepted during checkout.

This lets administrators stop a promotion without deleting the coupon.

## Disable Instead of Delete

When a campaign ends, disabling a coupon can be better than deleting it.

This preserves:

- Coupon history
- Administrative context
- Reporting references
- Existing booking records

## Coupons and Booking Totals

Coupons affect the booking amount before payment.

For example:

**Ticket:** $60
**Quantity:** 2
**Subtotal:** $120
**Coupon:** 25%
**Discount:** $30
**Total:** $90

The payment method then processes the resulting total.

## Coupons and Ticket Quantity

If multiple tickets are purchased, the discount is calculated according to the coupon's configured scope and the eligible ticket total.

Always test multi-ticket bookings before launching a promotional campaign.

## Coupons and Capacity

Applying a coupon does not change ticket capacity.

For example:

**Quantity:** 3 still consumes three attendee places whether the tickets are full price or discounted.

Coupon pricing and ticket capacity are separate systems.

## Coupons and Attendees

A coupon affects the booking price.

It does not change:

- Number of attendees
- Attendee collection
- Check-in
- Ticket quantity

The registration remains a normal Eventixa booking.

## Coupons and Guest Checkout

Guests can use eligible coupon codes when Guest Checkout is enabled.

The customer does not need a WordPress account simply to apply a coupon unless another configured rule requires authentication.

## Coupons and Logged-In Users

Logged-in purchasers can also use eligible coupons according to the coupon rules.

## Coupons and Payment Gateways

The coupon is applied before the final payable amount reaches the payment workflow.

This means gateways such as:

- PayPal
- Stripe
- WooCommerce
- Offline Payment

should use the resulting booking total where applicable.

## 100% Discount

A coupon can potentially reduce an eligible booking total to zero.

For example:

**Subtotal:** $50
**Discount:** 100%
**Total:** $0

When this happens, the booking may no longer require an online payment transaction depending on the supported checkout workflow.

Test full-discount scenarios before using them publicly.

## Coupon and Offline Payment

Coupons can also reduce the amount due for an Offline / Local payment booking.

Make sure the organizer's offline payment instructions reflect the final discounted total.

## Coupon and Refund

When refunding a discounted booking, review the amount actually paid.

For example:

**Original ticket total:** $100
**Coupon discount:** $20
**Amount paid:** $80

A refund should be based on the real transaction, not the undiscounted ticket value.

## Coupons and Recurring Events

Coupons can be used with eligible recurring-event ticket bookings according to the applicable coupon rules.

The booking still belongs to the selected occurrence.

Coupon application does not change the occurrence relationship.

## Coupons and Virtual Events

Virtual and Hybrid events can use coupons in the same way as other paid events.

The discount affects ticket pricing, not virtual access rules.

## RSVP and Coupons

RSVP tickets are not paid ticket purchases.

A discount code is therefore generally not relevant to an RSVP Going or Not Going response.

## Coupon List

The Coupons admin page gives you a central place to review your discount campaigns.

A useful coupon listing can include information such as:

- Coupon code
- Discount
- Event
- Usage
- Validity
- Status

This helps administrators quickly identify active and expired offers.

## Search and Filter Coupons

Where supported, use search and filtering tools to find a coupon quickly.

This is especially helpful when many promotions have been created over time.

## Coupon Naming Strategy

Use clear internal and customer-facing coupon codes.

For example:

**Good:** `EARLY20`

Less useful: `DISCOUNT_PROMOTION_2026_EVENT_A`

Short, meaningful codes are easier for customers to enter correctly.

## Avoid Ambiguous Characters

When possible, avoid coupon codes that confuse similar characters.

For example:

- O and 0
- I and 1
- S and 5

This reduces checkout errors.

## Marketing a Coupon

When promoting a coupon, clearly communicate:

- Coupon code
- Discount
- Eligible event
- Valid dates
- Any important restrictions

Do not advertise a discount without explaining major eligibility conditions.

## Example: Early-Bird Coupon

Event: **Business Summit**

Coupon: **EARLY20**

Discount: **20%**

Validity: **Until October 1**

This encourages customers to register before the early-bird deadline.

## Example: Sponsor Coupon

Coupon: **SPONSOR25**

Discount: **$25**

Usage limit: **50**

This gives a sponsor a controlled number of discounted registrations.

## Example: Private Partner Code

Coupon: **PARTNER15**

Eligible event: **Annual Conference**

Discount: **15%**

The code can be shared only with partner organizations.

## Example: Full Complimentary Coupon

Coupon: **VIP100**

Discount: **100%**

Use this carefully because it can turn a paid booking into a zero-total registration.

Apply appropriate usage limits or restrictions.

## Advanced Coupon Rules

> **Requires Eventixa Pro**

Eventixa Pro can provide Advanced Coupon functionality for more flexible discount conditions.

Advanced rules can extend the basic coupon workflow with additional eligibility controls.

These are covered separately in: **Advanced Coupon Rules**

## Basic vs Advanced Coupons

### Basic Coupon

Suitable for straightforward discounts such as:

- Percentage discount
- Fixed discount
- Event-specific promotion
- Basic validity period

### Advanced Coupon

Useful when more complex eligibility rules are required.

Use the simplest coupon configuration that achieves your goal.

## Editing a Coupon

Existing coupons can be edited from: `Eventixa → Coupons`

Review the coupon carefully before changing an active campaign.

Changes can affect future checkout attempts.

## Changing an Active Coupon

Be careful when modifying:

- Discount amount
- Validity
- Usage limit
- Event eligibility

Customers may already have received the original promotional terms.

Avoid unexpected changes during a live campaign.

## Existing Bookings

Changing a coupon does not mean previously completed bookings should be recalculated.

Historical bookings should preserve the amounts recorded when they were created.

## Deleting Coupons

Avoid deleting coupons unnecessarily when disabling them is enough.

Historical bookings may still refer to a coupon that was valid at the time of purchase.

## Coupon Testing

Before promoting a coupon publicly, test:

- Correct code
- Incorrect code
- Eligible event
- Ineligible event
- Percentage calculation
- Fixed discount calculation
- Usage limit
- Start date
- Expiration
- Multiple-ticket quantity
- Final payment total

## Test with Real Checkout Conditions

Test using the same type of ticket and payment method your customers will use.

A coupon that works in one simplified scenario may expose issues with:

- Multiple tickets
- Full discounts
- Recurring events
- WooCommerce checkout

## Common Problems

### Coupon Is Not Accepted

Check:

- Code spelling
- Coupon status
- Start date
- Expiration
- Event eligibility
- Usage limits

### Coupon Says Expired

Review the configured validity dates.

### Coupon Works on the Wrong Event

Check the event restrictions.

### Discount Amount Is Wrong

Review:

- Discount type
- Discount amount
- Ticket subtotal
- Eligible tickets

### Coupon Does Not Reduce Free Ticket

This is expected because the ticket already has no payable price.

### Coupon Reduces Total to Zero

This can be valid for a 100% or sufficiently large discount.

Test whether the zero-total booking follows the expected checkout workflow.

### Usage Limit Was Reached

The coupon can no longer be accepted once its allowed uses are exhausted.

### Coupon Does Not Appear in Booking Price

Confirm it was successfully applied before checkout completion.

### Refunded Amount Seems Incorrect

Review the amount actually paid after discount.

Do not calculate refund from the original undiscounted price.
